  • Do I need a self-monitored or professionally monitored alarm system?
It depends on your needs. Self-monitored systems send alerts to your phone via an app, giving you direct control. Professionally monitored systems are linked to a central station that actively monitors alerts and responds on your behalf — ideal if you want 24/7 oversight and fast action in an emergency.
  • How often should alarm panel backup batteries be replaced?
Alarm panel backup batteries typically last 4–5 years. Their lifespan depends on usage and how often they switch to backup power. Most systems will display a low-battery warning when it’s time for replacement. If you notice a warning even without a recent power outage, it’s likely time to replace the battery. To avoid system failure or damage, use a compatible replacement or contact us to book a technician.
  • How loud should my siren be?
A standard alarm siren should be at least 90 dB — about as loud as a vacuum cleaner. For larger spaces or higher-impact alerts, 105–120 dB sirens are available. You can also add a second siren instead of replacing the existing one. Make sure your siren is loud enough to hear throughout the building and test it regularly to ensure it meets your needs.
  • What kind of alarm monitoring do I need?
Professional monitoring provides 24/7 protection, with alerts sent directly to a monitoring centre that can dispatch emergency services if needed. While self-monitoring is an option, professional monitoring ensures fast response even if you're unavailable or out of signal range.
  • How much does a security system cost in New Zealand?
Costs vary depending on system size, features, and whether monitoring is included. We offer no-obligation quotes tailored to your needs. Please get in touch to discuss solutions.
  • What’s the difference between wired and wireless alarm systems?
Wired systems are physically connected and often used in larger or commercial settings, while wireless systems use radio signals and are quicker to install. Both are secure and reliable—your choice depends on your building type and future flexibility needs.
  • How long does it take to install a security system?
Most home systems can be installed in one day. Larger commercial setups or integrated solutions (e.g. access control + CCTV) may take several days, depending on complexity. We’ll give you a clear time estimate before work begins.
  • Can I control my alarm system from my phone?
Yes. Many modern systems offer mobile app control, allowing you to arm/disarm your system, receive alerts, and view live CCTV footage remotely. Ask us about smart integration options.
  • How often should I test my alarm system?
We recommend testing your system monthly to ensure all sensors, sirens, and communication paths are working. If you have professional monitoring, let the provider know before testing to avoid false alarms.
  • Do security cameras record all the time or only when motion is detected?
It depends on the setup. Most systems offer both continuous recording and motion-triggered modes. Motion-based recording saves storage and makes footage review easier, but continuous recording offers full coverage.
  • Is CCTV footage stored locally or in the cloud?
It can be stored either locally (on DVR/NVR units) or in the cloud. Local storage offers control and privacy, while cloud storage provides remote access and backup. Many systems allow hybrid storage for flexibility. We offer secure solutions that are stored locally.
  • Are fog cannons legal in NZ and how do they work?
Yes, fog cannons are legal and supported by MBIE for use in high-risk commercial settings. When triggered, they release a dense, non-toxic fog that disorients intruders and reduces visibility, deterring theft before it happens.
  • What happens if there’s a power outage — will my system still work?
Most systems include a backup battery that keeps essential functions running for up to 24 hours. We recommend checking and replacing backup batteries every 4–5 years to ensure reliable operation during outages.
  • Can you install security systems in rental properties?
Yes, with landlord approval. Wireless systems are ideal for rentals as they’re non-invasive and can be removed or relocated easily. We offer flexible solutions that fit within tenancy agreements.
  • How do I know what type of alarm is right for my business?
It depends on your location, building layout, risk level, and budget. We offer free consultations to assess your needs and recommend a tailored solution, including intrusion detection, access control, and monitoring. Get in touch today!
